BB Creams have recently swept the North American market, but it is no secret that they have been best-sellers in the Asian market for many years. BB Creams, also known as Beauty Balm, are meant to be the “all-in-one” product. It is a serum, moisturizer, primer, foundation and sunblock.
It can be worn alone for the skin and SPF benefits, it can be layered to even out skin tone, or it can be used as a primer for foundation if you want more coverage than just the BB Cream alone.
The saying, “jack of all trades, master of none” comes to mind with these products. While trying to put so many things in one bottle, can it really be effective? We think that BB Creams are great for travelling, going to the beach, or for rushed mornings; but if you are looking for specific benefits than it isn’t the greatest. If you are looking for an anti-aging serum or a really hydrating moisturizer, it is better to buy a specific serum suited for your skincare needs instead of relying on the BB Cream.
In terms of makeup, BB Creams are more tinted moisturizers than foundations and don’t really offer much in the way of coverage. If you are looking for a heavier product, don’t look for a BB Cream. If you are looking for a no hassle skincare routine then this is for you.
With BB Creams, be sure you know what benefits you would like. Surprisingly not all BB Creams have SPF. That is one of the biggest selling features for these products as sunscreen is often heavier and oilier and hard to work into a morning skin routine. If that is a benefit you would like, be sure the BB Cream has it.
There are also specific BB Creams for anti-aging that are rich in antioxidants if that is a benefit that you are looking for. Some are aimed at people with oily skin and claim “12-hours of moisture”. So be sure if you are going to the store to pick up a BB Cream compare a variety of brands and listed benefits to see which one most appeals to you.
