Transition your Summer Beauty Routine into Fall Fabulous

As Labor day has come and gone and people are settling back into school, work and a fall routine everything can seem overwhelming compared to the slow-paced summer. Here are 5 tips to quickly transition your summer makeup into flawless fall looks, as seen on the runway!

Getting Skintimate

Dewy is out for fall. And so is flat-looking overly matte skin. Instead, there have been a number of products that have surfaced that provide great coverage, but still let your natural skin show through. Instead of looking too dewy, or too matte, these formulas provide the perfect balance.

Crimson Hues

That’s right cranberry, rust and crimson hues are in for this fall. These colors are definitely easier to incorporate with your fall lip colors, but it is absolutely stunning when used on the eyes! Red eyeshadow may be intimidating, but try dabbing a small amount in the middle of your eyelid, or blend well into the crease leaving everything else neutral.

No More Neutrals

The nudes, corals, pretty pinks and french manis are out! Three hot nails shades this fall include purple-greys, deep navys and greyish greens. We love the trend of earthy grey tones that are gracing the shelves for fall.

Sheer Pops

We love the deep hues of fall lips. The plums, maroons and deep shades are extremely sexy and feminine. This fall we are seeing a lot of sheer shades. Instead of full color, there are so many pigmented stains and sheer glosses hitting the market.

From Fruity to Full

A great way to transition from summer into fall is to change up your scent. Swap out our citrus and floral scents for deep, woody scents. The cooler it gets, the warmer the scent – it’s a great way to get settled into the swing of fall.

Dandruff? How to get to the Root of the Problem

Dandruff can be such a nuisance to deal with. Not only can it be itchy and uncomfortable, but it can also be very visible and annoying. Dandruff can be caused by a variety things including stress, build up of hair products, weather changes and hormones.
There are a number of products sold that deal with dandruff, but there are also some natural approaches you can take to help keep the dandruff at bay.
Brush your Hair Regularly

Brushing your hair has a variety of benefits including that it stimulates your hormone and oil-producing glands keeps the pores of your scalp open which allows them to breathe and retain their natural oils. Brushing your hair will also massage your scalp and evenly distribute oils to keep your scalp naturally moisturized.

Keep your Scalp Moisturized

If you live in dryer or colder climates, your dandruff may be caused by your environment. That is why it is important to keep your scalp moisturized. People who are prone to oily hair may wonder how to moisturize their scalp without causing grease

Get back in Balance

This may be the least pleasant suggestion (because of the smell) but this tip really works! Use Apple Cider Vinegar on your scalp. The acidity of this vinegar helps balance the pH of your scalp and breaks down the dandruff. It may smell unpleasant – but the results are worth it! Plus, the smells go away when your hair dries.

Heat it Up

Heat up some oil (you can use olive oil from your kitchen) and use a cotton ball to dab and rub the warm oil into your scalp. This will help remove any dandruff and get the oil right at the root of the hair. The hot oil will open pores and also lock in moisture.

Flash Forward: Hot Makeup Trends for the Fall

September is just around the corner. With kids heading back to school and summer winding down, we are looking forward to the fabulous fall fashions and trends that will transition in as summer comes to an end. At Makeup for Your Day we absolutely love the summer-to-fall transition. The colors get richer and deeper – we can’t wait to get our hands on this season’s shades!

Plum Lips

Coral be gone! It’s time for the rich, deep plums to take over. Plum lips can be bold like red lips, yet they are dark, mysterious, sexy and feminine. One of the must-haves this fall is a great plum lipstick!

Blue Eyes
Blue doesn’t really fit into the deep, dark, smouldering color palette that some might imagine with fall – but we are seeing blue in the forecast for this season. Whether you keep it toned down with blue accents, or you decide to make a statement with royal blue lids, be sure to keep your other makeup to a minimum to avoid looking overdone.

Browns and Beiges

It can’t be fall without those lovely browns and beiges. These shades can looks so natural and beautiful. They are great for subtle accepts and depth, and they can also look stunning when these shades are “played up” for a bolder, but still neutral look.
Crisp Red Nails

With nail art becoming so popular, it is rare to find all fingers crisp, clean and the same color! Red nails are making a comeback. For fall, fingers will be reaching for the red nail polish to rock a regular mani once again.

How to Prevent your Hair Color from Fading

You know that “I just walked out of the salon with perfect color and feel great” feeling? Then you know that disappointment when your hair color starts to fade and look less vibrant and amazing than when you first got it done.

Luckily, there are a number of ways that you can slow the fading process down – even if you can’t prevent it completely – these things will help keep your hair color looking great for longer!

Don’t Wash Everyday

If you can, go two or three days without shampooing your hair. Instead use a combination of dry shampoo and creative updos to allow for longer time between washes. This will help prevent shampoo from striping the hair color and cause fading. This brings us to the next point…

Choose the Right Products!

Don’t use regular products on colored hair if you want the color to last. Specially formulated color-protecting products will help restore moisture and maintain the hair color for a longer period of time while avoiding ingredients that will strip the color.

Protect your Strands

UV rays can penetrate the your hair cuticle and oxidize, or bleach, the color. So opt for a hat or a leave-in conditioner or spray with SPF protection. There are tons of products in a variety of price ranges that have UV protection for you hair.
